Migrating WordPress theme and plugins to New host

Hello!

I’ve recently purchased the xtheme and have completed work on the website for a client. The clients “current site” is a .com whereas I’ve built the mock-up new xtheme site on a.net. Two problems though. The client has a different hosting provider than the one I used for the .net.

How do I go about migrating the new site to the .com? I want to abandon the .net domain, package up all it’s files and overwrite them to the .com

The hosting provider I used to setup the. Net is justhost whereas the clients hosting provider is Bluehost.

I read that I could download the "All in one WP migration " plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-wp-migration/ to pack up everything and migrate it to the new host but does that cover everything needed or is there more to be aware of?

My doubts and slight fears come from the position of me never migrating a site before and the client said his .com cannot be down for more than a few hours.

Any help?

Thanks! LOVE XTHEME!!!

Ryan

Hello Ryan,

Thanks for asking.

In our knowledge-base we have an article that you can refer to to safely migrate the website. I am sharing the link below, please take a look:

You can also take a look at following tutorial too:

Hope that helps.

Thanks.

Thank you! I’ll try this tonight.

Hello There,

Thanks for a very detailed post information. Is your client’s .com site using WordPress? Please install an Under construction plugin so that you can activate it while doing the migration. You will also need to install All in One Migration plugin in your client’s .com site and then proceed with the migration. Please keep in mind that All in One WP migration plugin only allows to upload up to 512MB only. If your site dev site is more than 1MB then you might need to pay extra. I would recommend that you look for other 3rd party migration plugin free of charge first, practice it in your .net site before doing it in your client’s .com site to avoid longer downtime. Maybe WP Clone (https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-clone-by-wp-academy/) could help you. Please install a fresh WP sub directory install like http://example.net/testing/ and use this plugin for you to have a first hand experience of how to migrate one site to another.
