Migrated To New Domain, Cornerstone Stopped Working

Hello!

I recently migrated one of my websites from a subfolder of my main website to a subdomain, and Cornerstone has stopped working (giving me a 500 internal server error). I am also getting a “ERROR: Cookies are blocked or not supported by your browser. You must enable cookies to use WordPress.” when I try to log in through my new subdomain’s wp-admin; not sure if this is related.

I had requested my hosting provider do it on my behalf, as I thought it would be quicker on their end, so they took care of copying everything over, including the database. I only realized once Cornerstone stopped working that I was supposed to follow the migration guide you guys have provided in other threads, and tried to go back to fix it, but I now appear to be unable to log in to my original subfolder install, so can’t copy the database over from there.

I requested my hosting provider take a look, and they said “There was no error found in the error_log so we tried increasing the php limits which usually fixes similar issues, but that did not fix the issue” and then directed me to you guys.

Any assistance you could provide would be much appreciated, as this website hosts our Impact Report, which was supposed to be released today (totally my bad for putting the migration off for so long…). I have provided my login details for you below.

Thank you!

Hey Ashley,

Please install the Better Search Replace plugin then do the following:

search for https://feedontario.ca/impact_test2 and replace it with https://impact.feedontario.ca and
search for http:\/\/feedontario.ca\/impact_test2 and replace it https:\/\/impact.feedontario.ca

Hope this helps.

Hi Jade,

Did you mean to do “search for https://feedontario.ca/impact_test2 and replace with http://impact.feedontario.ca”? Otherwise I’m not sure why I would be search/replacing with the same URL.

Thanks!

Hi Ashley,

Yes, that’s what Jade’s mean, to replace all the entry of https://feedontario.ca/impact_test2 in the database with https://impact.feedontario.ca/

If you view-source (ctrl+u) your page and do find (ctrl+f) https://feedontario.ca/impact_test2 you can see that the site is still requesting resources from that old URL, that means your migration process did not really go well as expected.

Another thing, your site seems to have an SSL certificate (https), but if you check Settings > General you’ll see WordPress Address and Site Address is under http:, that is one more reason to do the Better Search and Replace suggested by Jade.

Another unrelated issue, but a big issue, I see that your x folder is nested in another x folder, that is /wp-content/themes/x/x, that is wrong. That should be /wp-content/themes/x/ the x folder is directly inside the themes folder, not a subfolder. You can simply move this folder on your cPanel’s File Manager.

Remember to clear all your caching features (plugin, server-side, CDN, and browser’s cache) after updating so that the code from the latest release is always in use. This will help you to avoid any potential errors.

Let us know how it goes,
Cheers!
