Issue about WPBakery direct license vs. theme supplied

I am a business owner, not web developer, but I have built a site. I use a child theme of Renew I believe.

Here is the issue:

I bought a direct license of VC from WP bakery. Nothing good has occurred from this purchase. Finally got it installed and now cannot access my and edit content using the “classic editor”. Only allows edit from Front end or Backend editor.

Contacted WPB support regarding change to the direct license and got this response from them:

You can ask them whether any changes were made to the core plugin files. If so, then you can get them transferred onto a child theme, so that there will not be any issue with updates.

Your ticket (#61589) has been updated. To add additional comments, reply to this email.

WPBakery Team

You are using a theme called X whose author/developer is: https://themeforest.net/user/themeco You can contact the theme author to check the update process.

Since the original version came with the theme, it might be modified by the theme author and hence directly updating it might cause loss of the customisation code.

You need to ask them whether any changes were made to the core plugin files. If so, then you can get them transferred onto a child theme, so that there will not be any issue with updates.

So, what do I need to do and do I need to alter my existing child them due to the question they pose?

Thanks, please advice.

Hey @mhughes10,

Thanks for writing in. You will need to disable X Integration under WP Bakery Builder in order to use Visual Composer natively.

To learn how Visual Composer is used in X, please see https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/extension-visual-composer/76

Hope that helps.

I’ll try that. Thanks for the reply.

You’re welcome!
