I purchase X theme in June of 2015. I had my old site on another theme, so I was not using the X theme. Instead, I would like to use the X theme on my new site. I am currently on 4.0 X theme, and the cornerstone is at 1.0. X theme is asking me to register the theme first which I did that at the time I purchase the theme. I think since this is a new site, I have to put in my API key again. When I try to put the API key in, it will tell me that there is no connection. I have read some of the support forums and seen that support is telling people to set up a staging site first. However, since this is a brand new website, do I have to set up a staging site for a site that does not exist yet.

You have to update the theme manually using FTP.
