I give up!

I have X theme installed. I went to validation in X and chose ethos1 to download. It downloaded but now I am at a total loss as what to do next. My site is at inductionstovetops.com and I am unable to make my site look like the demo for ethos1. Once I get it to look like the actual demo, then I can start removing sections, hopefully, and adding my own sections to make it look like I want. I am trying to come close to duplicating the Layout (not the content) on thie site at https://cabinfreedom.com/. I know they are using X Theme with Ethos1. I am stuck. If you want to have access to my site let me know and I will provide the login data so you can see what I did right and what I did wrong.
I have spent hours on this to no avail and am worn out. I know it can be done but I do not have any videos, or written instructions to help me. I would rally appreciate your help. If you want you can email me at r7@rhood.com. I am a paid customer. Thanks…Bob Kieffer

Hello Bob,

Would you mind providing us the url of your site with login credentials so we can take a closer look and fix the issue? This is to ensure that we can provide you with a tailored answer to your situation.

To do this, you can make a post with the following info:
– Link to your site
– WordPress Admin username / password

Thank you.

I will get you the info but how where do I go to send a secure note? I don’t know if where I am typing now is secure?

Hi there,

You can post a Secure Note when you click on the key icon that is below your replies.

Thank you.

Sent. I have to leave for a bit…be back later

Hello There,

I have logged in to your site and made necessary changes to your theme options settings. I’ve disabled filterable index and changes the posts to be displaying in the carousel and the post slider from “Featured” to “Random”. To find out more about the unique Ethos stack option settings, please check this out: https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/customizer-ethos-options/131/1

Please check your site now.

wow…looking a lot better. How do I change the layout to 1/3 and 2/3 for my posts in the area ofDemo: 5 Reasons You Need The X Theme and the sections below. Right now it is one full section and not 1/3 and 2/3rds?
I want to thank you very much for your help. My back was against the wall. I will review the link you provided to me.

Hello There,

The post layout is controlled by the global theme options setting. You can change this in X > Theme Options > Layout & Design > Content Layout: http://prntscr.com/jlul11

If within the post content you want to separate it into column, you may use Cornerstone to build your post and have some columns in it. To get you started with Cornerstone, please check this out: https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/cornerstone-content-builder-introduction/118/1

All the things you need to know should be found in our knowledge base: https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/knowledge-base-overview/287

Hope this helps.

I created a new post called “Test Post” and used the managed layout in Cornerstone to make the layout 1/3 and 2/3rds. Here is the issue…when I load my home page the “Test Post” is still one column but when I click on the Title of Test Post another page or post opens up with the 1/3 and 2/3 layout with the comments on the bottom. The comments at the bottom are ok, but I cannot get the 1/3 and 2/3 layout to appear on the home page of posts?
I was told a few days ago that I could not use Cornerstone with ethos1, is that true? Maybe that is the problems with the layout? Perhaps you could help me with setting up the posts with the 1/3 and 2/3 layout on the home page.
It would be appreciated. I did review the video on Cornerstone but it did not address my problem. You have my un and pw at inductionstovetops.com. Once I get this set up, I want to use it as a template for my other sites I will be building. Help…:slight_smile:

Hello There,

The blog index not just in Ethos 1 but in all of WordPress cannot be edited by Cornerstone or any page builder. The blog index displays your latest post items in chronological order. The items were dynamically generated by WordPress being displayed by the theme’s template file for the index.

As you have mentioned that you already created 1/3 | 2/3 layout in your post, it still doesn’t display in the homepage or your blog index because by default, the blog index, will only display excerpts of the post. If you want to display the full content, you will have to enable the “Full Post Content on Index” option in X > Theme Options > Blog > Content..

Hope this helps.

I see what you mean.I changed to the “Full Post Content” and changed the post a little with a picture. However, I am not getting the results I want. Here is a web site https://camperreport.com/ that has the type of layout I want. The home or index page has the content excerpts on the first page and the full article on the second page once you click on the title. They are using the ethos1 stack but how do they create the 1/3 and 2/3 thing on the home page?
There must be a way. I don’t think they are Posts, I think they are Pages…not for sure. Perhaps you could take a peek and see how and what they have done on their home page. Thanks again…we are getting close.

Even the sample pages for ethos1 shows what I want …I just can’t figure out how they do it.

Hi Robert,

That area that you’re referring to as 1/3 column is the Main Sidebar, you already have that on your site (http://prntscr.com/jlw7im). Main Sidebar can be filled with widgets under Appearance > Widgets

The difference between this site (https://camperreport.com/) and yours is, that site’s post has feature images (except the first one), while yours has no featured image (http://prntscr.com/jlw8eq). Or was this the one that you’re referring as 1/3 + 2/3 columns? If so, please add a featured image to your posts and you’ll see that same layout.

Hope it helps,
Cheers!

Great so far…I removed Cornerstone and added featured images. So, right now the image shows and so does the text copy to the right of the image. In the sample ethos1 and in the caperreport site the text next to the image ends with three dots (…) I think they are called elipses? How can those elipses automatically be added to the text on the home page texts so that the text does not extend beyond the picture like in the samples? There must be a button or a checkbox somewhere so that the text on the home page next to the image does not extend beyond the image and ends in …
Not using Cornerstone with Ethos1 makes things a lot simpler.

Hey Robert,

The ellipses is added automatically when your text reaches or exceeds the Excerpt Length set in Theme Options > Blog. The Excerpt Length will show up if you disable Full Post Content on Index. Make sure the excerpt length is just enough so as to not exceed the height of your image.

To your comment:

Yes, most users do not use Cornerstone for post. It’s because most posts only use simple, linear layout.

Hope that helps.

I want to thank you for all your help. i am impressed with your customer service.
Thanks again,
Dr. Bob Kieffer

Right under my title on each post there is this “In Articles by R7 eagleMay 24, 2018Leave a Comment”. How can I remove that line of text from each post.? Here is my site https://inductionstovetops.com. Thanks…it is looking almost perfect the way I want it…

Hi There @rherhood

Try adding the following CSS rule into your Theme Options > Global CSS area.

.p-meta .meta-comments {
    display: none;
}

Hope that helps.

I had to go to Appearance>Customize>Custom>Edit Global CSS in order to insert .p-meta .meta-comments {
display: none;
}. All this did was to remove “Leave a Comment” from the line “In Articles by R7 eagle / May 24, 2018 / Leave a Comment
I think I need a css that will remove the entire line of “In Articles by R7 eagle / May 24, 2018 / Leave a Comment”
I tried to go to X in the Dashboard and when I clicked on “Theme Options”, there was no place to enter the css command so I had to go to the css area in the first sentence above to enter the css code you supplied.
Anyway, it would be of great help if you could send me a modified css code to enter to remove the entire line.
Thanks.
Bob

Attached is the lightshot pix of the lines I want to remove with some kind of css .
