How to switch to Child theme?

Hi I use Pro after switching from X over a year ago but apparently I never set it up as a child theme, like I had done with X. I still have my custom coding (I’m pretty sure) from X, but I think it’s probably a good idea for me to use a child theme for pro so I can always preserve my changes and not lose them across updates, but I don’t know how to make a child theme now, can you help? thanks.
