How to autoplay mp4 and YouTube videos within an Essential Grid

Greetings: I would like Essential Grids that include self-hosted mp4 and YouTube videos to autoplay on a repeating loop once a page is opened. This is automatic if the Essential Grid calls on an animated GIF which is housed within the Media Library, but not for ones that play self-hosted MP4 or YouTube videos.

Thanks.

Hi there,

I did search the Essential Grid documentation and found out this one:

https://www.themepunch.com/essgrid-doc/working-with-video/#video-inside-grid-item

I will need to have more context about the case, would you please give us the URL of the page in question to see how you set up the grid and what do you mean by page is opened, is it linked to a separate page or a lightbox?

Thank you.

Hi, Christopher: please see the first three grids on the following page: http://kypipe.com/draft-2018-release-video/.

There are other attempts on this page which are not grid-based that I just tried to play as an embedded video using HTML code. These have a “play” button but won’t autoplay either. If there is no way to autoplay a video within an essential grid, perhaps there is a workaround using one of these methods.

When I say autoplay when a page is opened, what I mean is when someone links to this page and it opens for the first time, I want the video to start playing on its own. See the last three animated GIFs on the page – they autoplay immediately and continuously loop, that’s what I’m looking to duplicate. Unfortunately those last three animated GIFs are displaying video files that are hosted within the WordPress Media Library, and I’d rather not load the Media Library up with too much data.

Hey There,

Thank you for the clarifications. Autoplay within a grid may not be possible. This is the limitation of the plugin. This is also because autoplay is not suitable if you have 12 grid items and all of them contains video. Just image for first time user, those videos will play simultaneously. I would just recommend that you use columns as grid items and insert a video element. With video element, you can autoplay the video in it.

If you host your video in Youtube or Vimeo, use the embed code and see to it that within the embed code, the video is set to autoplay.

Hope this helps.

Hi, RueNel, thanks for posting the links, I will try embedding a YouTube video. For my information, you mentioned inserting a video element and showed a copied image of a menu, is that menu a plugin, or do all users have access to it? I don’t see this as an option on my Dashboard.

Hi There,

Did you mean the image screenshot posted in above comment? It’s the Video element in Cornerstone. For more information please refer (https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/elements-video/10406).

Thanks!
