How to add excerpts to blog page

I’m sorry, because I see that this question has been asked and answered, but for the life of me, I still don’t know what to do.

Icon stack, can’t figure out how to create a 1-paragraph blog excerpt below my featured image.

Thanks for writing in!

Please be advised that excerpts will be generated from the very first 55 words of your post contents by default. You can limit the number of words by going to X > Theme Options > Blog > Content > Excerpt Length.

Now, if there are no excerpts in your blog index, most probably you are using Cornerstone in creating those post or have wrapped the post contents with a shortcode. If you want to have a custom excerpt, you can make use of the manual excerpts instead. Manual Excerpts are optional hand-crafted summaries of your content that can be used in your theme. Learn more about manual excerpts.

Yes, I used Cornerstone. Should I not? It seems to add an extra layer of complication, or is there something I’m not understanding?

Hello Kelli,

Since you used Cornerstone, you must insert custom excerpts or add manual excerpts in each post. You will need to edit each of those post and find the custom excerpts meta box.

Moving forward, if I create posts through WP without Cornerstone, will they look the same as the previous posts?

Hi Kelli,

Yes, the same excerpt format of other posts. Manual excerpt is only recommended if it can’t generate excerpt or if you wish to display different excerpt than its content.
