How do I actually start when picking a theme? This is my second purchase

I dont remember how I actually started last time but I had a base setup option where the sidebar was the menu and it had a logo spot above it, it was a blue template with yellow writing, etc, my new download is plain with menu on top, is there a spot to choose "basic layout" starting points?
