Google Maps Error, No Apparent API Problem

Hi there,

Google Maps has been giving me a loading error on a website I manage (darkened map with a popup box saying the page couldn’t load the map). I looked into it and other people were saying it’s the result of an API error. However, I implemented a new API key only to receive a different error altogether (no map, just grey with error message). I also checked the web console upon loading both errors, and the first one didn’t have anything about an API error, whereas the one where I did attempt to implement the API key did display an API error.

Seeing as the original error doesn’t seem to be caused by the API, could it have something to do with the fact that the site is running an outdated version of X and Cornerstone? I inherited the site from someone who never verified the license, so I can’t auto-update. The person in question also cut all contact so I have no way of reaching out to get the account details. If an update is required, will we have to purchase another license or is there some other way to go about it? I’m positive a license was originally purchased, just never verified as an oversight.

Hi Josh,

Thanks for writing in! Upon testing your site, I see that you’re using an older version of X theme (v4.6.1) and Cornerstone plugin (v1.3.3). The latest versions are X v6.2.5 and Cornerstone v3.2.5. You can see all the latest versions from here (https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/troubleshooting-version-compatibility/195).

When you have missed major update releases, automatic update process will not function correctly.

One option would be download the latest version from your Envato account and then follow our manual update guide here (https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/setup-updating-your-themes-and-plugins/62). For this, you need to contact the person who purchase the theme.

The other option would be purchase a separate license and update your site.

Hope that helps.

If automatic updates are no longer functional, would purchasing a new license allow me to somehow update to the latest versions while still maintaining all of my current settings? I’ve done a lot of customizing to the site that I’d rather avoid having to redo.

Hi Josh,

I’m not sure how you have done your customizations. If it is done through your child theme, those changes will be remain separately.

If you’re purchasing a separate license, the best way is to create a copy of your current site in a staging environment by following our guide here (https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/cornerstone-content-builder-migration/126). Then you can update your staging site and test before applying it on live site.

Hope that helps.
