Google Map stopped working

Hi

I’ve been using a number of google maps on my website, and they stopped working - the api key was no longer there and so I re-inputted it but it says ‘oops something went wrong’

do you know what it might be?

thanks

Hi There @jonesy2367

Thanks for writing in! I see that you have few licenses, so I’m not sure what’s the page URL referring to your issue.

First of all, make sure that you’re fully updated by following our version information here (https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/troubleshooting-version-compatibility/195). Then update theme or any outdated plugin by following our guide here (https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/setup-updating-your-themes-and-plugins/62).

If you’re already updated, most probably your issue could be related to a plugin conflict or caching related issue (specially if you have updated your theme recently). If you’re using a caching plugin on your server, purge your server cache and test. If you’re still having any issues, try disabling your 3rd party plugins and re-test your issue further to see if you’re encountering any plugin conflict.

Alternatively, you can also make use of the embed Google map instead. Please check this out: https://support.google.com/maps/answer/144361?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en

If you’re still having issues, provide us with your login credentials in secure note to check your issue further.

Thanks!

Hi

sorry i can’t see the ‘secure note’ button when typing this reply, see screengrab below - could you tell me where it is?

thanks!

it’s appeared under my reply now, i’ll type the login in

hi,

i just sent the login details

(i did try switching 3r party plugins off but it didn’t make the map reappear)

thanks for your help

Hi There,

Please set that account to administrator so we can edit your page.

I’ve opened the console log and see this error:

It seems the Google Maps API is incorrect or missing. Please check your API key again.

https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/error-messages#invalid-key-map-error

Thank you.

For those who don’t know, Google used to give these API keys away. Now, you have to give them your billing info first, then they move you into a free tier. This is something that I’m investigating now.

Hello @talk2bks,

Thanks for updating the thread.

Yes, you are correct. Google has changed how users access Google Maps resources and now users need to set up billing. For more information, users can take a look at following resource.

Thanks.

many thanks for both your replies…

(as you can see from the screengrab, the api is there, so i’ll set up the billing to see if that works)

just to let you know, i changed the login to ‘administrator’, thanks

Hey @jonesy2367,

Thanks for giving us admin access. If setting up billing does not work. Please try creating a new API. Also ensure you’re setting correct API key restrictions. See https://developers.google.com/maps/api-key-best-practices

hi Christian, i’ve tried that and none of it seems to work, and i’m still getting the same error message http://www.parkvetgroup.com/scraptoft-lane/

can you help?

thanks

Hey @jonesy2367,

Regretfully, we can do nothing on our end. The error in the console says it’s due to:

Google Maps JavaScript API error: InvalidKeyMapError

The issue is with your API key and not with the theme nor Cornerstone.

Have you also tried contacting Google Maps support to learn why your API does not work for your site?

If you’re having a hard time setting up an API, I’d recommend that you use the Map Embed method instead. Please see https://youtu.be/TagZO7IrvIo

Thank you for understanding.
