Google Analytics not working at all

Hi there,

I have input the analytics snippet as given into the Google Analytics plugin and yet it just does not work. I have analytics snippets for two properties:

  1. https://www.creativesexpress.co.za/
  2. https://vcs-sa.co.za/

I put in the snippet as given but it simply will not work, my analytics shows no traffic, nothing yet my jetpack and wordpress is showing hundreds of visitors monthly.

You will notice that there is also a piece of the snippet showing at the top of the page. I want to fix this as well, but my primary concern is getting it to work.

Thanks

Hey Gregory,

I don’t see the analytics code in both of your sites. Please ensure you’re using the latest version of the Google Analytics extension. Also, give us WP admin access in a Secure Note.

Thanks.

I have added a secure note with the login details for Creatives Express.

I copied and pasted the code from Google Analytics but I have noticed that after I have pasted the code in the box and update, the code changes. the tags around the URL are removed for some reason.

Also I do not know how to update the Analytics extension.

What you have inserted is not Google Analytics code code. It’s a tag manager code. And, you posted you posted a link that is why it shows up in your site (see Secure Note). Please remove it.

Here’s what the Google Analytics code looks like.

Thanks.

The code you saw is the one given by google under website tracking? There is nowhere else to find a code like the one you linked to, only the global tag. Is it possible Google has changed the snippet?

That code type (gtag) worked perfectly for another website that is not wordpress. I took the snippet as you see it and added it to the head> and the analytics was working the very next day so…

Also this new global tracking code is the only one google provides. I have asked for answers on Google forum but I fail to see why the snippet worked perfectly for another site but not when I use X theme and the Google Analytics plugin? Surely it is an issue with the extension?

And as I stated previously the extension is altering the code when I try to update it. It removes the script> tags around https that is why it keeps showing on the site. Why is the extension changing my code when I click update?

UPDATE

Okay so a Google Partner on the advertisers community just informed me that the global tag is in fact the new way of tracking analytics in Google.

I think the issue is because the X analytics extension changes this code when I hit update. See for yourself, take the snippet I provided you, input into my analytics extension and hit update. You will note the tags and the async around the https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=UA-112849077-2 are removed for some reason.

Hi There @gregphillip

Please disable X’s Google Analytics extension and use a 3rd party plugin like (https://wordpress.org/plugins/insert-headers-and-footers/) or a plugin like this (https://wordpress.org/plugins/duracelltomi-google-tag-manager/).

Hope that helps.

Same issue here. It would be nice if you would remove your faulty extension.

@Hoppy … Thank you for your feedback. I have submitted your opinion to our issue tracker.

Thanks!
