Cornerstone editor says that my home page has no content

Hi

My Home page displays fine (and has displayed fine for a long time) – https://houwhoekhotel.com/

But when I try to edit the page with Cornerstone, there is no content. I even get the “Add a section to get started” prompt in the sidebar.

How do I get my home page back? I really cannot afford to rebuild it from scratch in order to make any future changes…

Things I have already tried:
Making sure X and Cornerstone are up to date
Clearing the cache
Clearing browser cache
Increasing memory in wp-config.php
Disabling all plugins except Cornerstone

Hi There,

It seems you edited the page outside of Cornerstone, then the only way to edit it back in Cornerstone is to restore the site to the previous date (before you edit it outside cornerstone), or to rebuild the page again in Cornerstone.

Thanks,

I know that seems like a logical reason, but I can assure you that it is not what happened. I would NEVER edit a page that I meticulously built in Cornerstone, outside of Cornerstone. Both Cornerstone and Wordpress give warnings when switching between the two, so there is also no way I would have done so accidentally.

Hi There @designbythink

Can you try re-installing X theme and Cornerstone plugin? First disable and delete your Cornerstone plugin. Then head over to Appearance -> Themes section, switch to a default WordPress theme and delete your X theme as well. All the existing settings will be saved on the database, so that you can safely perform these steps.

Then you can download the latest X theme from your Envato account and re-install X theme as you would normally do (Appearance -> Themes). Then head over to X -> Validation section and wait for few seconds to automatically install the latest version of Cornerstone plugin as well.

Once you have completed these steps, make sure to purge your server cache if you’re using a caching plugin. Then head over to X -> Settings section and clear style cache on the bottom of the screen.

If you’re using a CDN service like CloudFlare, make sure to purge it’s as well by login into their account and finally clear your browser cache and test your issue again.

Let us know how it goes.
Thanks!

Hi there

Thanks for your suggestions. I have re-installed X and Cornerstone, but the problem is still there. I have noticed that it happened on another site of mine, and the only thing that those two sites have in common is that I recently migrated both to https. None of the other pages appear to be having difficulties – just the home pages.

Could this be part of the problem?

Hi There,

Did you able to resolve the issue? I did check your homepage in Cornerstone and the content are there.

Please clarify, Thanks.

Hi there

I did not manage to resolve the issue. I had to rebuild the home page from scratch, as my client needed changes immediately.

My other site https://www.wgrf.co.za/ still has the problem.

As I said previously, it looks like the problem starts whenever I migrate a site to https. Why does that happen? And how can I protect my home pages?

Hi @designbythink,

How did you change it from http to https? Any database editing could corrupt serialized data especially the URL changes of not done safely. I recommend restoring it back to when it’s still working, then let us check it.

Thanks!

I often migrate sites and change URLs, but have never encountered this kind of thing before.

But I will revert to a previous version and let you know if that fixes the problem.

Please be aware that your migration method needs to support serialized data because that is what Cornerstone data is composed of. For more details, please see https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/cornerstone-content-builder-migration/126/1

Thanks.

Hi

I follow Wordpress best practices for migrating sites. If there is a different preferred process for X and Cornerstone, please tell me what those processes are. Or at least give me a link to where I can find them.

Many thanks

Hi @designbythink

It’s the link that was shared by @christian_y

That’s the method that we believe won’t mess with the serialized data.

Thanks.

Hi there

Thanks for the link. I will keep it in mind the next time I need to migrate a site.

Thanks for understanding
