Can't Click YouTube Videos on Mobile

This is kind of an odd issue…

For some reason embedded YouTube videos will not play when viewed on mobile devices. They work perfectly fine on desktop but when viewed in a mobile browser you click the on the video and nothing happens.

Here is an example post:

Video plays on desktop but acts like an un-clickable still image on mobile.

Any idea what might be causing this?

Thanks.

Hi there,

Thanks for writing in! It seems like there is an overlay enabled in mobile screens. Can you please check for the following first:

  1. Ensure everything is up to date according to our version compatibility list at https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/troubleshooting-version-compatibility/195. Please follow the best practices when updating your theme and plugins. See https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/setup-updating-your-themes-and-plugins/62 for more details.

  2. If you’re using a caching plugin, clear all caches including browser cache then deactivate your caching plugin and other optimization plugins.

  3. If you’re using a CDN, please clear the CDN’s cache and disable optimization services.

  4. Test for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

Let us know how this goes!

I’ve updated my X Theme and all plugins to the latest version. I’ve also cleared all website, browser, and CDN cache.

I have many plugins so it would take time to disable all and test but I can try it. In the meantime do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Frank

UPDATE: I found the issue. It was the Convert Plus plugin that was causing the overlay. I had one modal displaying on mobile devices. It was not a “pop up” but instead simply displayed like a banner at the bottom of the content. As soon as I turned that off, all links and videos went back to working again.

Any idea why the modal would be causing this invisible overlay over the entire body of posts?

Thanks,
Frank

Hello Frank,

CovertPlus modal should not be displaying an invisible overlay unless it is active for a moment. The modal should be closed first before you can click on anything in the page content. Please make sure that your modal is displaying and not invisible.

Hope this helps.
