Can't add or edit any content

Hi team,

I have just noticed that I cannot add or edit any pages or posts. I tried switching off all plugins and then clearing cache — no luck. I then tried switching to a WordPress theme, which fixed the issue.

Can you help please?

Ollie

Hi Ollie,

Thanks for writing in! Could you please make sure that you’re fully updated first. You can check the latest theme version numbers from here (https://theme.co/changelog/), latest X/Pro compatible plugin version numbers from here (https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/troubleshooting-version-compatibility/195) and latest WordPress version from here (https://wordpress.org/download/) and then update your theme & plugins (https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/setup-updating-your-themes-and-plugins/62) and also WordPress accordingly (https://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress).

If your Content is created using Cornerstone builder or Pro content builder, switching themes does not help to troubleshoot your issue.

Could you please try following our general troubleshooting guidelines below and see if you can isolate the issue.

  1. Ensure everything is up to date according to our version compatibility list here. Please follow the best practices when updating your theme and plugins. Click here for more information.
  2. Go to X/Pro > Settings and click on the Clear Style Cache button.
  3. If you’re using a CDN, please clear the CDN’s cache and disable optimization services.
  4. Test for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third-party plugins, and see if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.
  5. Remove custom CSS and Javascript from the Theme Options or Child Theme and test the case.
  6. Reset your htaccess file by renaming it to .htaccess-bak. Then in WP Admin Menu, go to Settings > Permalinks and just click the Save Changes button.

Make sure to clear full cache before testing (https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-clear-your-cache-in-wordpress/).

If you still have problems kindly get back to us with the result of the steps above and FTP credentials of your server using the Secure Note functionality of the post to follow up the case.

Let us know how it goes.
Thank you.

I tried all of those steps and it’s still the same. Please can you take a deeper look?

Hey @ollietigs,

Your credentials work however, it looks like the directory is incorrect because it’s empty. Please check.

Also give us WordPress Admin access.

Thanks.

Hi there, sorry! I have updated the secure note and adjusted that FTP account.

Hi @ollietigs,

The builder loads okay on my end, what’s not loading is the edit page/post section on the admin and it displays tons of javascript error.

Have you converted this back from multi-site? That’s what I see in your configuration. The Wordpress itself is faulty, the errors are originating from Wordpress core files. Could you try re-installing the Wordpress? Please check this https://kinsta.com/blog/reinstall-wordpress/

But make sure to back-up your site so you could restore it back if the re-installation fails. You could do that on staging too, please check this for staging related procedure https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/slider-revolution-error-message/48874

Thanks!

Thanks but after re-installing core the same issue is still there. However, if I switch theme to Twenty Nineteen I can access new posts and pages. It looks as though it’s not a WordPress issue but an X issue?

Hi Ollie,

I have checked your debug.log which is under /wp-content/ folder and I see the following errors have been recorded there.

[24-Jan-2019 18:50:20 UTC] PHP Warning: Unterminated comment starting line 1428 in /home/lightlys/public_html/wp-admin/includes/file.php on line 1428
[24-Jan-2019 18:51:12 UTC] PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected end of file, expecting ';' in /home/lightlys/public_html/wp-includes/class-wp-theme.php on line 478

However upon further testing, when I have disabled your child theme, I was able to edit your content using the Cornerstone editor (see secure note). You need to check your child theme customizations and check your error log to troubleshoot this issue further.

Thanks!
