Can´t update X on localhost

Hi,

I can´t update X on localhost.

Under X > Validation you can see that X is validated. I have registerd “localhost” on my licences.
But on the update screen you can see the info: Validate X to enable automatic updates

So what´s the problem here?

Michael

Hello Michael,

Thanks for writing in! Please make sure that you have assigned the license code with the same URL that you have in your Settings > General. We highly recommend that you create a custom domain like “local.dev” or “my-domain.dev” for your localhost as well. This article might be able to help you:

Hope this helps.

Yes, I have assigned the license code with the same URL that I have in my Settings > General

Thank you for the tip with the custom domain - but I don´t like to create a custom domain on localhost. You can see in my first scrennshot that X is validated on localhost. But I´m not able to make updates.

Hello @michaelxxx,

The license code may not allow IP address and localhost. It is best that you set up custom domains in your localhost. If you do not like to create custom domains, you will just have to update your theme manually. You can always download the latest copy from your dashboard:

To know more about updating the theme manually, please see “Manual Updates” section in this knowledge base article:

Best Regards.

Hi,

I have always worked with X on localhost without a custom domain and there have never been any problems updating the Theme. So what has changed with X?

Hey @michaelxxx,

I tested it on my localhost and it’s working fine on my end. You probably need to re-validate the X theme and then wait for few minutes and then navigate to Appearance > Themes > X and update the theme. If you still see the validation notice then try to login again.

Also check you’ve registered http://localhost/ under https://theme.co/apex/licenses

Hope this helps!

Hi Nabeel,

no, I didn´t help :frowning:

Interesting is the following behaviour:

  • I deleted my localhost licence under https://theme.co/apex/licenses
  • then I used the link “Revoke validation” under X > Validation
  • Then I got the info: You’re almost finished! Your license of X is not validated.
  • When I now refresh the site X is again validated - without entering my licence!
  • I logout and login - but the message “Validate X to enable automatic updates.” under updates is still there

So any other idea what is happening here?
When I revoke my licence - why can X still validated when I refresh the site?

Hey @michaelxxx,

I checked the sites assigned to your licenses and I saw you assigned localhost without the protocol (http:// or https:://). It must be exactly as your Site URL.

Please add the protocol like this:

Hope that helps.

Hi,

yes, I have assigned localhost without the protocol (http:// or https:://). But this was just a test to check, if this could be the problem. Before I had it with the http://

Now I have added the http:// again in my licences - but it still doesn’t work.

The question is, what can be the reason that I got under X > Validation the info: X is validated - but on the Updates page I got the info: Validate X to enable automatic updates?

Hey @michaelxxx,

I did a test on my local setup by revoking a license first and then re-validated my site which is using Pro. I also got the notice “Validate X to enable automatic updates” that’s maybe because it takes some time to update. I logged out and then logged back in and then I went to Dashboard > Updates and there I could see the Pro with the available update (see screenshot)

Follow the above and you should be able to update your theme automatically. If you still have issues then manually update the theme on your localhost. See the Manual Updates section here https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/setup-updating-your-themes-and-plugins/62

Thanks!

Can it be a problem that I have a license for PRO, but only use the normal X? I don’t actually need the PRO version

Hello @michaelxxx,

The Pro license should be used to validate the Pro theme. The X theme license is for validating the X theme. If you have an X license code and then you have upgraded to Pro, please use the license code according to which theme you are using.

Please go to Appearance > Themes and send us the screenshot of that page. You may also have different versions of Pro or X theme on that page.

Thanks.

I’m not quite sure what your mail means now?

You can see in my licences that I have “Converted to Pro on Apr 11,2017”. But I don´t need Pro. I still work with the “regalur” X. Please see the attached screenshot. Until now this has never been a problem, because I can use the normal X with the PRO license. Therefore the question if there was a change and the upgrade doesn’t work?

And I can’t do the manual update, because only the PRO version is offered for download on my dashboard. Can you send me a link for downloading X 7.1.1?

And I still don’t understand the following behavior:

  • I used the link “Revoke validation” under X > Validation
  • Then I got the info: You’re almost finished! Your license of X is not validated.
  • Now I just need to refresh the site and X is validated again - without entering my licence

Why is X automatically validated again when I just refresh the page and without entering my licence?

Hi @michaelxxx,

Since you already upgraded to Pro then you should only use the Pro version. And the license will only work on Pro update, it’s been like that.

If you wish to install the X theme then you’ll have to manually do it and get it from your Themeforest account since it’s still on X license.

About the validation, it could be specific to your site and usually related to database or memory caching. It doesn’t happen on other sites, like on my sites. I rarely see the same issue but it’s usually host-related where changes doesn’t hold or take effect immediately.

Thanks!

I can’t confirm that. As written above, I upgraded to the PRO license in 2017 (it was a free offer at the time.) and still only use X - and the updates for X have always worked.

  • I have updated X manually from 7.0.4 to 7.1.0 (this is the newest file on Codecanyon)
  • After updateing I had the possibilty to enter my licence - and it´s validated
  • And now I could update automatically to the newest version 7.1.1 without any problems

So I´m fine now.

Hi @michaelxxx,

Glad it’s working now, it’s not really going to work with older versions since it’s update server is different. And I assumed you’re already on latest version since you’re only localhost which tend to always have newer installations.

Thanks!
