Blog Masonry Issue & No Blog Sidebar - Change default layout then change ALL webpages?

Hello,
I’ve built an entire site with 22 pages. I’m now adding the blog and can’t get the sidebar to show up. From what I’m reading it sounds like I need to go to my Options - Layout, and change the layout to Content Left - Sidebar Right. But when I do, it adds a sidebar to 21 of my 22 webpages.
Is this is only way?
(RECOMMENDATION: This is NOT intuitive. No one would think to choose a “with sidebar” layout when initially building their website. Perhaps you might want to consider having a “default page layout” and a separate “default blog post layout”, as most websites (exactly like the ones in your demo’s, do not have sidebars on the pages, just the posts. Or allowing posts to have their layout changed from the default that was used for the pages.)

Second, is the ONLY way to get a sidebar to show on my main /blog/ archives page to add .php? That also seems strange.

Third, I’ve tried changing my blog archive layout from Standard to Masonry 3-column and I’m not seeing any change… Cleared cache…nothing

Thank you!

Hello There,

Thanks for writing in and the very detailed information. By default, the page and post item layouts is dependent in your global settings which can be found in the X > Theme Options > Layouts & Design. And if ever you want to create a fullwidth page because that is always be the case, this is where the page templates comes in.

In your case, please go to X > Theme Options > Layouts & Design and select “Content Left - Sidebar Right” or “Sidebar Left - Content Right”. And then of course for you pages, you can edit it and change the page template from the default page template to use the Layout - Fullwidth page template. For more details about the different page templates in the theme , please check this out: https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/features-page-templates/50/1

And for you caching issue, I can tell that you are using CloudFlare (http://whois.domaintools.com/thehelpfulmarketer.com). Please login to your CloudFlare account and purge your site cache. Caching plugins is best turn on when you are finish building the site. For best results, please make sure that you are using the recommended CloudFlare settings which you can check it out here: https://xthemetips.com/using-cloudflare-rocket-loader-with-x-pro-and-x5/928/

Hope this helps. Please let us know how it goes.

Thank you.
Can you please pass along my feedback about making the Post Page Layout being dependent only upon the base, default page layout?
I now have to go back in and change 22 webpage’s layouts from “Default” because of this strange setting. Or perhaps they can just make it clear that the default page layout chosen is how the Blog will default? Clearly stating that Pages can be changed, but Blog Posts are solely reliant upon the Default Layout selection in X’s Theme Options.
This is bassackwards.

Hello There,

Your feedback has been noted.

By the way, the post layouts is dependent to the global layout since then and it even applies with Twenty Fifteen, Twenty Sixteen and Twenty Seventeen themes. If you want to have a different layout for your page, you can apply page templates as being explain in the codex right here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Pages#Page_Templates

Post templates were only introduced until the release of 4.7: https://make.wordpress.org/core/2016/11/03/post-type-templates-in-4-7/

Hope this helps.

Hello,
I’ve made the suggested changes within Cloudflare.
My blog is still not showing any differently on “Masonry” than on “Standard”. Either choosing “two” columns or “three” columns, my blog archives page still shows as 1 standard column - no different than when it was originally set as “Standard”.
Any further suggestions?

Hey There,

Would you mind providing us the url of your site with login credentials so we can take a closer look? This is to ensure that we can provide you with a tailored answer to your situation. To do this, you can create a secure note with the following info:
– Link to your site
– WordPress Admin username / password

Thank you.

OK, I’m about to send you a note with the log-in.
Here are my problems:

  1. Main Blog archive page won’t turn to masonry layout, but Category Archives does.
  2. I’d like the layout to be similar to http://demo.theme.co/renew-7/blog/ - a 2 column masonry /blog/ page with no sidebar, but the blog posts themselves DO have a side bar.
  3. I created a Sidebar which is showing on 1 post, but not on the other 2. I see the option to create additional sidebars, but I don’t see anywhere to assign which post gets which Sidebar?
  4. I deleted the widgets in the main sidebar hoping it would get rid of the sidebar on the main /blog/ page, however it just got rid of the widgets and left the space for the sidebar.

Nevermind #3. I just need 1, 2, and 4 figured out.

Hi,

  1. Select Masonry under X > Theme Options > BLOG

  1. You can set this under X > Theme Options > BLOG

  1. Yes, that will only remove the widget. You need to change the layout instead. Please see #2

Thanks

Ugh! Thank you!
I was under the assumption the “Blog” section was for the Posts’ pages, but now I see it says “posts’ index” as in the main blog post Archive, and that’s treated separately from the other archives.
So many of X’s Theme Options are completely different from any theme and builder I’ve worked with…
Thanks again.

You’re welcome!
