Add excerpt & read more to recent posts

Hello,
I was able to add some code to my php file and add excerpts to the featured posts on my homepage here. How can I add the “read more” at the bottom as well?

Also, I only wanted the excerpt to show up on some not all. How can i select which ones?

To add Read more links, you can take a look at following tutorial.

As you already have activated child theme, please make sure to add modifications into child theme.

To selectively display excerpts then the most easy option would be WordPress excerpt box. To enable the same, please take a look at following thread.
