Adblock social icons bug

I already described the problem here: https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/2-scrollbars/14116/3
but made this new topic as I’ve been told that I’m only provided support if I start the topic.

So to re-iterate using adblock plus (at least with firefox) with a site that has social media icons will cause two scroll bars to appear preventing proper functioning of the website and social media icons are hidden as well.

This is of course problem since I cannot assume that all the users know how to/ want to turn off adblock plus.

The fact that this very site has those same social media icons on the sidebar and adblock plus doesn’t seem to react to them in anyway seems to imply that this is a bug.

Can you please provide a fix or a workaround?

Thank you

Oh almost forgot the problem only appeared after I deleted and re-installed Cornerstone like I was adviced to do to fix the missing classes and href field from classic buttons, which unfortunately didn’t help.

Hi There,

We’re sorry you are having this issue. We can check but we cannot promise a fixed. If you could share a sample page URL with issue that would be better. I assume you have turn if off at the moment because when I check your site URL on firefox I didn’t see the issue of double scroll bars. I have seen some issues with double scroll bar and usually this is because they are using a page template with container then a content was added inside which is set to be fullwidth/fullscreen or there are certain size conflicting with the container. Your case might be different that’s why we need to check it directly.

I meant that the problem exist if the website user, which in this case would be you has Adblock Plus enabled, which is quite popular program, it results in double scroll bars and disappearance of social media icons from the bottom of the page. The problem appears on any page.

To remind you, the problem did not exist until I deleted and re-installed Cornerstone as advised and the problem does not exist on this very site (apex forum) where the social media icons are on the left sidebar.

Once more for clarity, on this site with Adblock Plus enabled there’s no double scroll bars and social media icons do not disappear with the Adblock Plus enabled, on my site with the Adblock plus enabled social media icons disappear and double scroll bars appear.

I could not find anyone else having the same issue by googling, so I assume it is a bug caused by deleting and re-installing Cornerstone. Fix would be very much appreciated.

Hello @Soundventor,

I installed Adblock plus addon on my Firebox and I am unable to replicate the problem on my end. Social media icons are working fine and I don’t see any double scrollbar appearing on my end. Please see screencast. In that regards can you please share website URL for us to take a closer look? Though it’s outside the scope of support we offer as the problem is caused by a extension (browser addon) that is not part of the software’s we support and the broader WordPress ecosystem but I will try my best to give solution or point in right direction that may help you resolve the problem being faced.

Thanks.

That is exactly what I meant and have tried to explain a few times. The problem does not exist with this site or other sites created with x theme as far as I know and only appeared on my site after I deleted and re-installed cornerstone as I had been instructed to do by the support here.

The problem was not fixed with updating cornerstone to just released version either like I had hoped. As it seems that the problem is caused by deleting and installing cornerstone. Maybe you can try if you can replicate that on a test site?

The problem (double scroll bars bug) appears on every page of my site with Firefox and Adblock Plus on this computer and I have tried purging caches etc.

I’ll put website address in a secure note.

Hi there,

I installed Adblock Plus and checked it, I don’t see two scrollbars. What browser version you’re testing it with?

Thanks!

Newest. I have Firefox updated to newest available version 56.0.2 (64-bit). I’ve cleared both Wordpress cache and browser cache and it doesn’t fix the problem for me. Double scroll bars on all pages that are long enough, on shorter pages single scroll bar, but a weird dysfunctional one and social media icons missing on all pages.

I’m on newest Firefox and installed Adblock Plus and I also don’t see any scrollbar. I checked all of the pages and all have one scroll bar.

Maybe this issue is unique on your end. Do you have other extensions? If so, please try deactivating them too.

Would you mind giving us screenshots of what it looks like with and without Adblock Plus? Also give us specific URLs.

Thanks.

That’s very weird.

Well the good news is the problem doesn’t then seem to appear for other people. At least I hope so. I have to ask someone to double check for me.

Other extensions have been disabled. It’s on every page, but I’ll give the exact URLs in secure note.

If it’s unique to me, maybe then there is not a big reason to fix it, but would be nonetheless interesting to know what is causing it. So if you have any idea, please let me know. I’ll post screenshots below, thanks for the support.

From the same page you took the photo:

Hi There,

It is kind of hard for us to troubleshoot an issue that is isolated to your installation.

Would you mind to test it on different browsers and computer to confirm it is isolated to your browser?

Thank you

Hi,

I would like to do that, but at the moment I am incredibly busy trying to get the product released asap.

Hopefully, I get everything sorted out soon and then I would be able to try that say next week.

Sorry, but at the moment I have so much to do I have no choice but to prioritize, but I’ll try that as soon as I have a little bit of time. I’ve been working past midnight for the past few weeks.

Hi There,

Another Support here and neither I can replicate the issue on my end.

I did actually do some few things that I might able to replicate the issue, but no dice. So yup this is more likely with your local machine.

Thanks,

Hi,

Thanks for help and trying things, that helped. I release the product soon and if I don’t hear anyone complaining, I guess it’s on my end then.

The problem still persists for me though, even with just upgrading from firefox to the new quantum.

Well, anyway thanks for help. If none of you are getting the issue that means I can relax about it then. Have my hands full, so every little thing I don’t have to worry about really helps

Thank you for your understanding
