Accidental Theme update breaks edit

Hi
I accidentally updated to X 6.4.6 today, and it no longer allows edit in Graphical view instead you see only skeleton View.

“An unidentifiable error is preventing the live preview from loading. Switching to Skeleton Mode.”

We are on Wordpress 5.0x and before I accidentally updated it was fine to edit.

I did a site backup a few days back hoping not to have to roll back to that.

The X theme was quite a bit older think it was 3.x before the update.

Any other advise on how to get the graphical edit function back without resorting to backups ?

Kind Regards

Matt

Hi Matt,

Thanks for writing in! You need to update both X theme and Cornerstone plugin to the latest versions, in-order to make it fully compatible. When checking your site URL assigned to this Themeco account, I see that you have updated your X theme but you’re still using an older version of Cornerstone plugin (v2.0.6) which creates incompatibility issues. The latest version of Cornerstone plugin is v3.4.6 as you can see here (https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/troubleshooting-version-compatibility/195).

In your case, just disable and delete the existing Cornerstone plugin by head over to plugins section. Then Head over to X -> Validation section and wait for few seconds to install the latest version of Cornerstone plugin automatically.

Once you’re fully updated, make sure to clear full cache by following this guide (https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-clear-your-cache-in-wordpress/) before testing your site.

In case if the issue remains, could you also please try following our general troubleshooting guidelines below and see if you can isolate the issue.

  1. Make sure that you’re running at least PHP v5.6.x or later to avoid any WordPress related incompatibility issues. If you’re not sure what your server configurations and settings are, install a plugin like WP-Serverinfo (https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-serverinfo/) and check your server info by head over to Dashboard -> WP Serverinfo area.
  2. Try increasing your PHP Memory limit by following our guide here (https://theme.co/apex/forum/t/troubleshooting-increasing-php-memory-limit/16935).
  3. Test for a plugin conflict by disabling your 3rd party plugins except Cornerstone plugin. If the issue is resolved, then you can activate your plugins one by one to see which plugin causing the issue.

If you’re still having issues, provide us with your WordPress login credentials in a secure note to check your issue further.

Let us know how it goes.
Thanks!

Hi Thanks for getting back to me, thats good to know about Cornerstone plugin.
Do I have to update in the method you mentioned because of my situation ?
This is the screen I was viewing and wondered do I deactivate as per your instructions or update?

Hey Matthew,

You will need to update since Cornerstone is not a third party plugin so it should not be included in the plugin conflict test.

Thanks.

Thanks I deleted Cornerstone and validation installed the correct version now able to edit again thanks.

Hey Matthew,

We are just glad that you have figured it out a way to correct the said issue.
Thanks for letting us know!

Best Regards.
