The title says most of what I want to ask, but I checked out the ‘adding images’ tutorial in the Knowledge base, and it shows him inserting images using the visual composer. However, when I try to edit my page, I am only getting a box with all the code and above, I can choose visual composer backend editor (which I don’t understand so don’t want to use) or the frontend editor, which directs me to an external editor which won’t even load, it just keeps loading for hours. Thank you so much for any help or advice

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for writing in and sorry your having issues with the front end editor. First off, please update your theme to the latest 3.2.1 you currently have 3.2.0. Then could you test something for us, could you try adding a new blank page and see if VC frontend editor will load? If it does then the issue might be that the current content isn’t readable by the front end editor and this is why it is stuck on loading. In the backend editor you will usually get a warning saying that there’s an issue with content, with the front end editor it’s a bit different.

Please let us know how that goes. Also if that doesn’t solve it, Would you mind providing us with login credentials so we can take a closer look? To do this, you can make a post with the following info:

– Link to your site
– WordPress Admin username / password
– FTP credentials

Don’t forget to select Set as private reply. This ensures your information is only visible to our staff.

Thanks!

Yes, the frontend editor works when I add a new page. Thanks for that. However, the main page I wanted to use it on was the home page, which was brought in from the demo content download, and it’s not working. Is there a way to ‘update’ the demo content home page so that it is compatible with VC?

Also, is there somewhere I can see some tutorials on editing the homepage? I can’t seem to find any and I am having problems editing background images etc etc

Thanks a lot,
Jamie

Hi Jamie,

Standard shortcodes and visual composer’s shortcodes are just the same. With exception that VC uses [vc_row] and [vc_column] instead of [content_band] and [column]. The only wait to updated your current format is to manually edit them by changing content band and columns shortcode. Although, if you have stray content that doesn’t match to the visual composer’s structure format. Then it will not work.

Example,

This is okay with standard format, but not for vc.

[content_band]
I'm content, and I can be anywhere.
[column] ohh [column]
[/cotent_band]

While this is how it should be on VC

[vc_row]
[vc_column]
[text_output]I'm content, but I'm only restricted here.[/text_output]
[recent_posts]
[/vc_column]
[vc_row]

Must follow the proper structure, opening, closing, and right shortcode in order to comply on VC standard.

You don’t have home page content, so I can’t respond on what format you’re using. You can actually import demo content with VC format. And you’ll find how they are done and added.

We have available walkthrough for each shortcode from our Knowledge Base section.

Thanks!

I think you’ll find, with a bit of time, that the backend editor is far more user friendly, especially for beginners. not only is it faster, but it better defines the borders between the different elements you are using, giving you more control of your content. The front-end editor, on the other hand, has a bunch of problems. You simply shouldn’t use it unless you are very comfortable with Visual Composer.

The front-end editor is exactly the same as using the backend, except it doesn’t clearly define where things are. That’s going to give you issues, I promise. Use the backend.

Hi @MitraD,
Upon checking your website, I see some Javascript errors.
You could try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.
Hope it helps.
