You aren’t doing anything wrong, that is how that template is supposed to function. The container is removed so that you can use the [content_band] shortcode and have the fullwidth sections like you see on the homepage demos for X.

You can center you content again by adding inner_container=”true” to your shortcode, like so:

[content_band inner_container="true"]
  ...content here...
[/content_band]
